Born in 1979, Ulric Collette, self-taught photographer, studied art and graphic design in Quebec city in the late 90s and now work as art director for Collette, a communication studio in Quebec region. The work of Ulric has been presented in various websites, magazines and books all over the world (Prism, Global Investor, Esquire, Light and Lens, Snap, Fubiz, My Modern Met, Adobe, etc). Most recently, his work on the genetic portraits series was shortlisted in the world most prestigious advertising awards show, the Cannes Lion.

For his collection “Genetic Portraits,” Canadian photographer Ulric Collette cut images of fathers and mothers, and daughters and sons in half vertically and reassembled them to create father/daughter, mother/daughter, father/son, mother/son and sibling composites. The effect is both eerie and emotionally moving, and gives new meaning to the locution, “You look just like …!”

How much do you and your family members really look alike? Quebec, Canada-based graphic designer and photographer Ulric Collette has created a shockingly cool project where he's exploring the genetic similarities between different members of the same family. By splitting their faces in half and then splicing them together, he creates interesting new people that are sometimes quite normal looking and other times far from it. He calls this series Genetic Portraits.
