American artist Zac Freeman forms unique portraits out of all kinds of small and used materials. Each of his objects comes from scraps of trash that are leftover from the things that we regularly consume. From colored buttons and plastic bottle caps to metal tabs from soda cans, Freeman puts all of the unused and unwanted objects to use in a fresh new way.

Each of his objects comes from scraps of trash that are leftover from the things that we regularly consume. From colored buttons and plastic bottle caps to metal tabs from soda cans, Freeman puts all of the unused and unwanted objects to use in a fresh new way.

To build each portrait, Freeman glues the pieces together on a wooden canvas, compiling all of these unwanted pieces into a stunning representation of a person's face. From up close, viewers can enjoy the unique significance of the individual pieces, while from a distance, the objects all blend together into one realistic portrait.Freeman uses actual garbage in his pieces because he says, "I feel the junk is more powerful being present. It is an actual thing to be reckoned with that existed in this time and place and carries energy in and of itself. The result is a time capsule of objects that reflects our culture." 13 more images after the break.

Mind-blowing Celebrity Portraits Made from Scribbles

Many of us idly doodle on notepads to pass the time, but one artist has made scribbling an artform in its own right. Artist and illustrator Vince low, from Kuala Lumpur, creates artistic order from the chaos of pen lines to produce stunning portraits of famous faces. His 'Faces' project began when, as head illustrator at advertising agency Grey, he created three portraits of famous dyslexics to create awareness for the disorder: Pablo Picasso, Albert Einstein and John Lennon.

He decided to use the scribbled style for a personal project featuring other famous faces. Vince Low, creates detailed portraits of celebrities like Morgan Freeman, Leonardo Di Caprio and Jack Nicholson using only numerous overlapping swirling lines or scribbles.

Vince explains: 'It all started with an advertising campaign for the Dyslexia Association of Malaysia. In Malaysia, most people are not aware of dyslexia at all. The advertising campaign for the Dyslexia Association of Malaysia struck home with Vince as he is dyslexic himself.

Born in 1979, Ulric Collette, self-taught photographer, studied art and graphic design in Quebec city in the late 90s and now work as art director for Collette, a communication studio in Quebec region. The work of Ulric has been presented in various websites, magazines and books all over the world (Prism, Global Investor, Esquire, Light and Lens, Snap, Fubiz, My Modern Met, Adobe, etc). Most recently, his work on the genetic portraits series was shortlisted in the world most prestigious advertising awards show, the Cannes Lion.

For his collection “Genetic Portraits,” Canadian photographer Ulric Collette cut images of fathers and mothers, and daughters and sons in half vertically and reassembled them to create father/daughter, mother/daughter, father/son, mother/son and sibling composites. The effect is both eerie and emotionally moving, and gives new meaning to the locution, “You look just like …!”

How much do you and your family members really look alike? Quebec, Canada-based graphic designer and photographer Ulric Collette has created a shockingly cool project where he's exploring the genetic similarities between different members of the same family. By splitting their faces in half and then splicing them together, he creates interesting new people that are sometimes quite normal looking and other times far from it. He calls this series Genetic Portraits.
