Ten Commandments of cell phone etiquette

Posted on 04:38 by Unknown
Ten Commandments of cell phone etiquette
There comes a time in any technological revolution when some basic guidelines need to be laid down. It happened when e-mail exploded on the scene and people started to learn some basic dos and don'ts around the new medium.…There are some real abuses of wireless technology being perpetrated all around us, and the time has come to create some social order out of the cell phone chaos…so think of this as the first Ten

Commandments of cell phone etiquette, with amendments to follow:

1. Thou shalt not subject defenseless others to cell phone conversations. When people cannot escape the banality of your conversation, such as on the bus, in a cab, on a grounded airplane, or at the dinner table, you should spare them. People around you should have the option of not listening. If they don't, you shouldn't be babbling.

2. Thou shalt not set thy ringer to play La Cucaracha every time thy phone rings. Or Beethoven's Fifth, or the Bee Gees, or any other annoying melody. Is it not enough that phones go off every other second? Now we have to listen to synthesized nonsense?

3. Thou shalt turn thy cell phone off during public performances. I'm not even sure this one needs to be said, but given the repeated violations of this heretofore unwritten law, I felt compelled to include it.

4. Thou shalt not wear more than two wireless devices on thy belt. This hasn't become a big problem yet. But with plenty of techno-jockeys sporting pagers and phones, Batman-esque utility belts are sure to follow.

5. Thou shalt not dial while driving. In all seriousness, this madness has to stop. There are enough people in the world who have problems mastering vehicles and phones individually. Put them together and we have a serious health hazard on our hands.

6. Thou shalt not wear thy earpiece when thou art not on thy phone. This is not unlike being on the phone and carrying on another conversation with someone who is physically in your presence. No one knows if you are here or there.…

7. Thou shalt not speak louder on thy cell phone than thou would on any other phone. These things have incredibly sensitive microphones, and it's gotten to the point where I can tell if someone is calling me from a cell because of the way they are talking, not how it sounds. If your signal cuts out, speaking louder won't help, unless the person is actually within earshot.

8. Thou shalt not grow too attached to thy cell phone. For obvious reasons, a dependency on constant communication is not healthy. At work, go nuts. At home, give it a rest.

9. Thou shalt not attempt to impress with thy cell phone. Not only is using a cell phone no longer impressive in any way (unless it's one of those really cool new phones with the space age design), when it is used for that reason, said user can be immediately identified as a neophyte and a poseur.

10. Thou shalt not slam thy cell phone down on a restaurant table just in case it rings. This is not the Old West, and you are not a gunslinger sitting down to a game of poker in the saloon. Could you please be a little less conspicuous? If it rings, you'll hear it just as well if it's in your coat pocket or clipped on your belt.

Most of these seem like common sense to me, but they all get broken every day.

Co-founder and Chairman, Microsoft

1. The world may know him as Bill Gates but his full name is William Henry Gates III.

2. Gates never completed his graduation from college. Instead, he founded Microsoft with his friend Paul Allen in 1975. He was just 20 years old when he founded Microsoft.

3. He is known to keep his word. In school he bragged to his teachers that he would be a millionaire by the time he was 30. He kept his word, and in fact, was a billionaire by 31.

4. The first computer program that Gates wrote was a tic-tac-toe game. The game was played in a two player format where the computer was the opponent.

5. Considered one of the wealthiest people in the world, Bill Gates is believed to earn nearly 250 US Dollars every second which is about 20 million dollars a day and

7.2 billion dollars a year. At that rate, he can pay off the entire United States debt in less than 10 years.

6. His children often tease him by singing the song ‘Billionaire’ by Bruno Mars and Travis McCoy.

7. He has a Twitter account and is very active on it. But is not very happy using Facebook as the friend requests got out of hand. However, Mark Zuckerberg and he are said to get along well.

8. If Bill Gates was a country; he would be the 37th richest country on earth!

9. He enjoys playing tennis, golf and bridge in his leisure time.

10. He is a history buff! In an interview, he said that the first things he would save in a fire are the documents he’s collected from famous historical figures like Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex Leicester notebook, which he bought in 1994 for over $30 million.

TOP TEN HOME REMEDIES FOR SEXUAL DEBILITY AND IMPOTENCE

Posted on 08:40 by Unknown

TOP TEN HOME REMEDIES FOR SEXUAL DEBILITY AND IMPOTENCE

Sexual debility usually results in people who are stressed up emotionally and physically or in people who overindulge in sex since an early age, resulting in poor sexual performance, resulting in the person further feeling low and depressed. Impotence also called erectile dysfunction [ED] is a condition that involves a partial or complete failure of erection of the penis with a normal sexual desire. This may occasionally resolve on its own within a few days, but if it persists then consulting a doctor becomes necessary. Avoid eating a heavy meal late at night. Taking a cool bath before going to bed may help in certain cases. Avoid taking excessive alcohol and stop smoking.

Give yourself some time to relax and avoid talking of work at home.

SOME HOME REMEDIES

#1. Those who are suffering from the above said condition are advised to take a well-balanced diet consisting of seeds, nuts, grains, vegetables and fruits. They should avoid tea, coffee and all kinds of processed, canned and refined foods.

#2. Two to three cloves of raw garlic should be taken daily.

#3. Lightly macerated mixture of equal parts of dried dates (seedless), blanched almonds, pistachios and sugar is pickled in thin ghee for a week and one ounce is given to the person every morning.

#4. Milk in which figs (anjeer), roots, bark and tender sprouts of Banyan tree (vata) have been boiled is given with honey and sugar.

#5. The dried roots of asparagus (safed musli), about fifteen grams boiled in one cup of milk should be taken twice daily.

#6. Ripe plantains are taken with some ghee twice daily.

#7. Cooked rice eaten  with some ghee and soup of kidney beans (rajmah) is good.

#8. Juice of white onions and fresh ginger is taken with honey daily for a few weeks.

#9. Black raisins should be boiled with milk and taken thrice daily.

#10. Ten drops of the fluid extract of Black Willow (Salix Nigra) in a little hot water before meals is useful for sexual weakness and neurasthenia.

Top Ten Tweaks in MS Window7

Posted on 03:40 by Unknown

Top Ten Tweaks in MS Windows 7
In the sense of this topic and my belief, "tweaking" is doing something to make Windows work better, either by changing the "safe default" to something that utilizes the hardware more, turning some component on or, most frequently, turning some unwanted component off and or/deleting files/reg entries.

While with OS-es up to XP I could get the job (of clean install + updates+ installing few most needed programs + calming down) done in 3 days, with 7 I'm satisfied and confident in the OS installation only after 3 weeks or more. Of course, that time will go down with experience, but it will never approach the time XP requires.

So here goes my list, from best to "less best, but still pretty good":

1. Install SSD - OK, I break my criterium with the first item, but I think it absolutely made most difference - on a 5400 laptop HDD, Windows 7 was unbearable, but even on a crappy first gen SSD it can be lived with. Other tweaks help, but this is the biggest quantum leap.

2. Use "Install Wim Tweak" / "DISM remove components" (Also pre-install "liters", of which I use Windows 7 Toolkit) - a great help to speed up cleaning, but of course, even though some dependencies are mapped, we're still a long way from a "safe" preset or list for everyone.

3. Turn off "Startup Event Trace Sessions" in "Computer Management -> performance -> Data Collector Sets" - The speeedup is noticeable immediately (OK, after reboot), at the expense of losing functionality that might or might not be needed.

4. Remove unneeded foreign language fonts - yeah, it still makes a big difference.

5. With the help of Sysinternals Autoruns and/or Nirsoft's ActiveXHelper, FileTypesMan, MimeView, RegDllView, ShellExtensionsView remove unnecessary things (Now you know why it takes me weeks to complete this.

6. Tweak services, of course.

7 Turn off IPv6 protocols (they are still not widely used today, but it might be needed someday). I noticed some speedup (maybe it's all in my head?).

8. Take ownership of files/reg keys - not a tweak in itself , but a skill that every Win7 tweaker must learn.

9. Plain old Reg tweaks - I can't really single out one or few that is/are most important and made most of the difference because there are simply too many of them (my XP tweaks folder is 300 KB, the new one for 7 is addidional 150 KB on top of that - many of the old ones still apply).

10 Boot tracing with Process Monitor - it's not the tracing that is important, it's deciphering and hunting for the undocumented registry entries that's fun for me. I strongly believe that it's better to "tell" windows what you want - leaving registry entries unpopulated is simply not an option for me. Of course, you have to find the default, which is not always easy to do or obvious, but it is still rewarding IMO.So, that's it. I hope this will bring some useful discussion.

The Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics
The 1st Commandment
Thou shalt not use a computer to harm other people.
In the age of information and/or the digital age, more and more personal information is available online.  From financial to personal, information online is the property of the individual and entities that they share it with and no others.

Ten Disciplines of Hinduism

Posted on 23:10 by Unknown

Ten Disciplines of Hinduism

The Hindu Disciplines are found in the Bhagavad Gita, which is Krishna's battlefield discussion with Arjuna. The oldest continuously-practiced religion in the world, and the dominant religion of South Asia (chiefly, India of course), the Indonesian island of Bali, and certain parts of The Caribbean (such as many areas of Guyana or Trinidad) due to the presence of Indo-Caribbean people there, Hinduism's roots can be traced back to Iron Age India, and as such it is believed to be the oldest living religion in the world. Contrary to popular Western belief, most modern Hindus will attest that it is monotheistic, not polytheistic. To sum it up simply, in the same way Catholicism has the concept of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit being different forms of the same God, Hinduism has a similar belief: Vishnu, Lakshmi, Lord Shiva, Bramha, Hanuman, etc. are all different forms of one God, known variously as Brahma, Ishvara, or other names. So, though Hindu Mythology contains a vast pantheon of gods and beings, they are all recognized to be part of the same Sarvasva or "All-Being", i.e, God.

1) Nonviolence.
2) Truthfulness.
3) No desire to posses or steal.
4) Celibacy or sense control, and no adultery.
5) Non-greed.
6) Purity of thought, word, and deed.
7) Contentment.
8) Austerity, perseverance and penance.
9) Study of scriptures
10) Surrendering to God with faithful loving devotion, regular prayers

The Ten Precepts of Buddhism

The Ten Precepts of Buddhism

I undertake to observe the precept to abstain from ...
1.harming living beings.
2.taking things not freely given.
3.sexual misconduct.
4.false speech.
5.intoxicating drinks and drugs causing heedlessness.
The first five precepts are mandatory for every Buddhist, although the fifth precept is often not observed, because it bans the consumption of alcohol. Precepts numbers six to ten are laid out for those in preparation for monastic life and for devoted lay people unattached to families.
6.taking untimely meals.
7.dancing, singing, music and watching grotesque mime.
8.use of garlands, perfumes and personal adornment.
9.use of high seats.
10.accepting gold or silver.

Top Ten Communication Skills

Posted on 07:40 by Unknown

Top Ten Communication Skills
1. Eye contact is something that good communicators use all the time.
2. Your eyes show how you feel more than your words or body language. The way you look into people’s eyes tells people what you think about them and how comfortable you are with them.
3. Eye contact is powerful, so use it carefully.
4. Staring at someone is threatening.  It makes people uncomfortable.
5. Get eye contact with someone before you start talking to the person.  That way, you know that person is paying attention to you.
6. Eye contact is NOT staring.  People glance at each other from one to seven seconds, then look away.
7. The listener looks at the speaker more than the speaker looks at the listener.
8. If you are wearing sunglasses, take them off so that you can make eye contact.  Sunglasses hide the communication signals.
9. If you’re talking to someone and you want to keep talking, you can avoid making eye contact.
10. That’s a signal that you’re still taking your conversation turn.  Don’t do this often, or people will think you’re too bossy or controlling.

TEN TIPS FOR POSITIVE BODY LANGUAGE

Posted on 07:10 by Unknown

TEN TIPS FOR POSITIVE BODY LANGUAGE

Our face, eyes, hand gestures and posture express what is going on inside of us.

They each give valuable clues to others (and to us), as to whether the words we say are consistent with what we are really feeling.

Being aware of our body language allows us to send a consistent message and be more aware of what others are subliminally conveying to us.

#1. Eye contact

Eye contact is the first thing that people look for when they meet us first and good eye contact will give them a feeling of comfort and genuine warmth in your company,

Maintaining good eye contact shows respect and interest in what they have to say.

Here in Ireland we tend to keep eye contact around 60-70% of the time. (However, there are wide cultural differences, so be careful in other countries) .

By drawing the eyes away occasionally or looking at different areas of the face around the eye area, you create the impression of eye contact without making people feel  uncomfortable. Any more eye contact than this and you can be too intense, any less and you give off a signal that you are lacking interest in them or their conversation.

#2. Posture

Getting your posture right will automatically make you feel more confident. And when you feel good other people pick up on that.

Next time you notice you're feeling a bit down, take a look at how you’re standing or sitting. Chances are you'll be slouched over with your shoulders drooping down and inward.

This collapses the chest and inhibits good breathing, which in turn can help make you feel nervous or uncomfortable.

#3. Head position

When you want to feel confident and self assured keep your head level both horizontally and vertically.

You can also use this straight head position when you want to be authoritative and want what you're saying to be taken seriously.

Conversely, when you want to be friendly and in the listening, receptive mode, tilt your head just a little to one side or the other. You can shift the tilt from left to right at different points in the conversation.

#4. Arms

Your arms give away clues as to how open and receptive we are to everyone we meet and interact with, so keep your arms out to the side of your body or behind your back.

This shows you are not scared to take on whatever comes your way and you meet things "full frontal".

In general terms the more outgoing you are as a person, the more you tend to use your arms with big movements.

The quieter you are the less you move your arms away from your body. So, try to strike a
natural balance and keep your arm movements balanced.

Crossing your arms is a no, no in meetings or at interview as it can be interpreted as being passive aggressive or closed to suggestion.

#5. Legs

Your legs are the furthest point away from your brain; consequently they're the hardest bits of your body to consciously control.

When we are nervous, stressed or being deceptive our legs tend to move around a lot more than normal. So best to keep them as still as possible in most situations, especially at interviews or work meetings.

Be careful too in the way you cross your legs.

Do you cross at the knees, ankles or bring your leg up to rest on the knee of the other?

Quite often this is more a question of comfort than anything else.

But do be aware that the last position mentioned is known as the "Figure Four" and is generally perceived as the most defensive leg cross, especially if it happens when someone is telling you something that might be of a slightly dubious nature or, just moments after.

#6. Angle of the body in relation to others

The angle of your body in relation to others gives an indication of your attitude and feelings towards them.

We angle inward toward people we find attractive, friendly and interesting and angle ourselves away from those we don't, it's that simple!

#7. Hand gestures

Our hand gestures are so numerous it's hard to give a brief guide but here goes.

Palms slightly up and outward is seen as open and friendly. Palm down gestures are generally seen as dominant, emphasizing and possibly aggressive, especially when there is no movement or bending between the wrist and the forearm.

This palm up, palm down is very important when it comes to handshaking and where appropriate we suggest you always offer a handshake upright and vertical, which should convey equality.

#8. Distance from others

The distance we place between ourselves and others is crucial if we want to give off the right signals.

Stand too close and you'll be marked as "Pushy" or "In your face".

Stand or sit too far away and you'll be "Keeping your distance" or "Stand offish".

As neither of these is what we want, it’s always a good idea to observe other people in the group and see how close they are standing to each other. Then you can mimic that distance.

Also notice if you move closer to someone and they back away, you're probably just a tiny bit too much in their personal space, their comfort zone and should pull back a little.

Spatial distance varies greatly from country to country so always be aware of how others are spaced in groups around you.

#9. Ears

Yes! Your ears play a vital role in communication with others, even though in general terms most people can't move them much, if at all.

However, you've got two ears and only one mouth, so try to use them in that order!!

If you listen twice as much as you talk you come across as a good communicator who knows how to strike up a well balanced conversation.

Remember you never learn anything by speaking, only by listening .

10. Mouth movements

Our mouth movements can give away all sorts of clues about us.

We purse our lips and sometimes twist them to the side when we're thinking.Or, sometimes we use this movement to hold back an angry comment that we don't wish to reveal. Nevertheless, it will probably be spotted by other people and although they may not know the comment, they will get the feeling that you were not too pleased.

There are also different types of smiles and each gives off a corresponding feeling.

A full smile with the lip coming above the teeth shows genuine joy .

A tight lipped smile implies disapproval or shyness .

When one side of the mouth is raised in a closed lip smile it can imply attraction, or it can mean complicity for an ‘in’ joke.

A smile that does not reach the eyes is NOT a smile but  manipulation .

TEN WAYS TO REDUCE YOUR CRAVINGS

Posted on 05:07 by Unknown

TEN WAYS TO REDUCE YOUR CRAVINGS

Cravings usually occur when your body lacks certain nutrients, including some important vitamins and minerals. This happens when people don't allow themselves the food they need. They will skip their breakfast and eat a tiny salad for lunch and then go home and head for the things like potato chips, burgers, sweets and chocolates. These not only have a lot of calories, but also lack the necessary nutrients; vitamins, minerals and micronutrients that our body needs on a daily basis thus making the person not only put on unnecessary weight but will also make them feel very weak, lethargic and prone to infections.

The following are a few tips as to how to reduce the tendency to develop cravings and thus automatically contribute to reducing weight. The person is asked to  avoid sugar  in all forms, since it tends to triggers unstable blood sugar levels and thus increase the cravings.

1. Suck a sour pickle when you feel a craving for sweet. It will help you to eliminate that craving.
2. Eating enough protein helps to reduce the craving. Small amounts of protein throughout the day are the single best strategy for balancing blood sugar and energy levels and to eliminate the cravings.
3. A really strong craving for sweets can be overcome by eating a peppermint followed by a glass of fruit juice or a few nibbles of a fruit, like an apple or a pear.
4. Use herbs and spices liberally for added flavor plus the blood sugar balancing effects they have. Cinnamon (tuj), cardamom (elaichi) or nutmeg (jaipher), added to yogurt or skimmed milk, will help satisfy a sweet tooth, since these spices add a sweet flavor without the calories.
5. Moderate exercises like brisk walking, swimming and aerobics tend to activate the cells. It helps to decrease the cravings by helping the cells to respond better to insulin and also helps to increase the level of free fatty acids in the blood that can be used for energy.
6. Chocolate is a rich source of magnesium, which most people lack and so develop a craving for it.  So if you crave chocolate take in more of magnesium through either supplements or its sources. Magnesium is found  especially in apples, apricots, avocados, bananas, brewer's yeast, brown rice, dairy products, figs (anjeer), garlic, green leafy vegetables, kelp, meat, nuts, peaches, seafood, sesame seeds, tofu, wheat and whole grains.
7. Keeping yourself absorbed in hobbies that you like (like stitching, gardening, painting, teaching, etc.) will make you feel good and creative and plus deviate your mind off the cravings. So the next time that you feel like reaching for a chocolate cake or a bag of chips, reach out instead for the newspaper or your knitting set.
8. Increase the intake of flaxseed, walnut and canola oil, which contains essential fatty acids. This will also help to decrease the cravings.
9. Make sure to get enough of trace minerals like zinc picolinate and chromium  picolinate, which balance the blood sugar by helping the insulin to work more effectively. So they are very useful to reduce the craving plus to reduce the weight.
